GoldenGate Cloud Service (GGCS): Network Connectivity Options for GGCS – On-Premises and Oracle Cloud

Introduction

This article will discuss in high-level the different options available for network connectivity between Oracle GoldenGate (OGG) software running on-premises and GoldenGate Cloud Service (GGCS) instance running on the Oracle Cloud.

The following topics are not included in the scope of this article:

  • Installation and Configuration of Oracle GoldenGate (OGG) Software
  • Provisioning of GoldenGate Cloud Service (GGCS) instance

The following assumptions have been made during the writing of this article:

  • GGCS has been provisioned
  • OGG software has been installed on-premises
  • The reader has basic knowledge of Installation and Configuration of OGG software
  • The reader has basic knowledge of GGCS Provisioning
  • The reader has basic knowledge of Oracle Cloud Services

Main Article

For network connectivity to Oracle Cloud, there are basically two general type of connections available that can be used:

  • Public Connection via the Public Internet
  • Private Connection via Virtual Private Network (VPN) or a Dedicated Private Connection

Public Connection

The Public Connection utilizes

The following are the available connectivity options via the Public Internet:

  • Connectivity through Secured Shell (SSH)
  • Direct GoldenGate TCP Ports Connectivity

SSH Connection

For SSH connectivity option, GGCS connection is done via SSH GoldenGate SOCKS Proxy support.

Direct GoldenGate TCP Ports Connection

For Direct TCP port connectivity options, access to GoldenGate TCP ports used by GGCS needs to be enabled.

Private Connection

For private connection to Oracle Cloud, the following are the available connectivity options:

  • VPN via the Public Internet
  • Dedicated Private Connection

VPN via Public Internet

For VPN solution via the public internet, the following are the available connectivity options:

  • VPN via Corente Services Gateway – cloud-based software-defined networking (SDN) service
  • VPN Site to Site via IPSec tunneling devices

Dedicated Private Connection

For dedicated private connection, the only available option is through the Oracle FastConnect service.
