Connecting Oracle Analytics Cloud Essbase to the Autonomous Data Warehouse

Introduction

The latest releases of Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC)-Essbase now support connections to the Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW).

This post is a step-by-step guide to creating the connections. Links to documentation are provided for all steps where possible. Screen shots are provided for the ADW Connection steps.

Preparing to Create ADW Connections

To enable secure communication between Oracle Analytics Cloud and the Autonomous Data Warehouse, your administrator must obtain trusted SSL certificates contained in an ADW wallet.

Unzipping the Client Credentials Zip File

Use an unzip utility to unzip the Client Credentials Zip File e.g. wallet_DB201806211045.zip to a directory e.g. wallet_DB201806211045.

Creating an OAC-Essbase ADW Connection

This section creates the OAC-Essbase ADW Connection and then creates a Datasource using the connection. The Datasource creation process returns the columns and data used to validate the connection.

Creating the ADW Connection

To create the connection, log into OAC-Essbase and navigate to the Home page.

Click Sources

 

 

Select Connections

From the Create Connection drop-down, select Oracle Database

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Check Autonomous

Enter a Name 

Enter a Service Name from the tnsnames.ora file in the unzipped client-credentials folder.

For Wallet File, Enter the location of the client-credentials zip file downloaded or provided from ADW.

 

Enter the ADW User and Password.

 

Enter a Description

 

 

Click Test

 

 

 

 

Click Create

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The connection has been successfully created.

Creating the ADW Datasource and Validating the Connection

Navigate back to Sources screen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Select DataSources

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Click Create Datasource

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

From the Connection drop-down, choose the connection created above.

Enter a Name

Enter a Description

Enter a Query against the ADW database. (The SH Schema is provided with ADW)

Click Next.

 

 

This result validates that the connection can read the column definitions returned from the Datasource query.

 

 

Click Next.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This result validates that the connection can read the data specified by the Datasource query.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Click Create

 

You can now use the ADW connection and Datasource in OAC-Essbase.
